There is a good reason that political correctness has been described as The War on Noticing. America is not a homogenous society, it is full of people with wildly divergent backgrounds, views and aims, and so they naturally do not get along. When it comes to national unity, diversity is not a strength. Identity politics deliberately exaggerates existing fissures, and is a surefire recipe for social discord.
Perhaps some new great national cause can be manufactured to unite all the squabbling social subgroups, but if current trends continue, separation and self-rule is in the future.
