There was no soccer where I grew up in the 60s. Baseball mainly, with some Pop Warner football. Basketball for indoors or on the driveway. Fast forward to the 90-2000s and every patch of available grass has kids playing soccer. I think it’s a good sport for the young as more can play, which is good, and there is less standing around like there is in baseball.

The only time I remember playing soccer was in high school, in PE on a very foggy Central California morning in January. So foggy that when you gave the ball a good boot, you couldn’t see where it went. THAT was fun.

I’m really not a fan of soccer. I feel that it discourages individual achievement. The same people who want every kid to get a trophy are the ones who love soccer. It’s utterly boring too. It’s regressive as well. Just my opinion, I know people love it but I think it’s a Stone Age type activity.
