There are way too many variables to be considered and managed. I believe that they will be left with a mess on their hands that no one entity will be able to consolidate into any kind of central control, and they may even find themselves at the wrong end of the stick. Global conquest is not a new idea, and none have ever been able to retain control as their empire expanded to areas outside of their reach.
I tend to agree with your observation. They are hardly elites and many of them are dull drones and stooges. Their arrogance will unleash a great dystopian chaos.
