Never had a smart phone, didn't want one, never did.

Imagine being in thought or action and a gadget in your pocket

beeping for attention distracting one from those thoughts and actions?

There have been a few endeavors which have really focused on privacy (decentralized control) like Purism-Librem 5 or the Pinephone... Haven’t looked lately, but seeing as the smartphone is a tool, What we all really want is a tool that isn’t controlled. Me too Suzanna - never a truer word spoken. Given all the whining by Celebs and Wokesters about being abused on social media, I say: "What do you expect? As one of my mentors said many years ago "don't get jealous. get even". OK so I modified a bit for you. But really, the message is clear. Do not measure yourself against others - be your own person. As as Maslow suggested: "Self-actualisation is the complete realisation of one's potential, and the full development of one's abilities and appreciation for life. This concept is at the top of the Maslow hierarchy of needs, so not every human being reaches it." But at least we can aspire to it.
