The real-life version of Cyber Polygon probably has a dual purpose. The first and familiar purpose is to instill fear in the public--people will be astounded and afraid when they find out what doesn't work and what breaks in their lives when a truly global cyber event occurs. Disappearing bank balances, all kinds of infrastructure problems, the list is endless.

I suspect that the second purpose, and perhaps the more important one, is to "reset" the Internet. We will be told that the system needs to be completely "reset" and "rebuilt". In the process, all that nasty mis- and dis- stuff will be purged, and we will be told that strict new measures are being put in place to ensure that it NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN! This may be how they plan The Great Purge of dissent.

What may not work as planned is that the willingness of the public to accept things like digital ID and (especially) CBDCs may disappear once they see how dependent those are on a bulletproof internet.
