The war is over, and Russia has won. Putin could just give us the middle finger and take whatever he wants, but he's very shrewd and will play the circumstances to his advantage. He might find a way to give Trump an apparent "win" of some kind in the negotiations, and thus make it easier for Trump to give more concessions to Russia than the other players would like.
It was very interesting that "The Daily Mail" reported a lip reader claiming that, on the tarmac at arrival, Putin said to Trump, "I am here to help you." Putin putting the blame on Biden, despite Trump having started arming and training the Ukrainians from the beginning of his first administration in 2017, would fit right in with that.
To me, it's all theater, all the time. One big photo op.
I wonder how much time Putin and Trump actually spent talking about ending the war, and how much time they spent discussing re-construction contracts, oil and gas and other financial interests?

They also seem to want to give the world a positive impression of themselves as a responsible global nation, not a military threat (like the US). And Ukraine/NATO is woefully behind in every category... boots on the ground, drones, missiles, experience, manufacturing capability, aerial offense and defense, surveillance, you name it. Russia hasn't let the sanctions stop their GDP from growing, and now their army is up to 1.8 million troops, trained and experienced. Ukraine is opening their recruiting up to 14- and 60-year-olds, so you know they're desperately short of manpower.
