I would love to know this, too. It has never made sense to me that we couldn't do a saliva test or swab the back of the throat, as for strep. If someone here knows and can reasonably explain why it would ever be necessary to stick a swab so far up one's nasal cavity, which is risky.... maybe I'm just super ignorant, but I'm not understanding why.

I’d never allow someone to use that long swab up my nose.
