In 2004, the US government tested young people for being physically fit for the military. Only one in three made the mark. That alone, automatically led to the conclusion that the development and production of robotic armies were started on a grand scale.
Originally, they may have been, and are, minitanks, but now humanoid Terminator-like stuff is available even on the civil domain. It would be possible to use these, along with a few holographic projections for "UFOs" in the sky, for making people believe in an "alien invasion."
This reminds me of a joke:
"How can you prove that there is intelligent life in the Universe?"
Ray, really interesting to see how they plan to introduce these "aliens" (goblins).

"They haven't tried to contact us."
