Yes, losing two of our most vocal cultural critics who should gave known better about a lot of things has been eye-popping. It seems that once you get a name for yourself, it's almost impossible to tell the whole truth 100% if the time if there's a risk to your newfound fame. It's a fundamental flaw in human nature and one that costs all if us dearly.
