I had a conversation with an atheist friend recently who was offended by the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. He's offended by "under God?" Has he ever thought that millions are offended by his mere presence? We make that sacrifice though. Why? Because God would be very displeased if we didn't. So, atheists can thank God for little favors.
I happen to have a lot of long-time friends and dear relatives who have grown more atheist over the years, even as I have grown stronger in my Christian faith. The divergence did not seem so apparent in the past, but it's stark now. It's getting harder and harder to have discussions, though, because they get offended so easily these days.
One question I always try to ask at the beginning of a conversation with them: since we are talking about God, what is your concept of God that you are rejecting, so we can be on the same page about that? Even that question can be offensive.
I do not usually raise the topic, but they usually give me an opening, for example when they bring up the topic of "Christian Nationalists," said with a derisive sneer. (these are lifelong friends, and I don't know if all hope is lost just yet)

All 'ownership' of property is validated and made binding through legislation, and those laws are ratified by government and affirmed by the police. The police are on the government payroll.
