A priest of Lupercus, clothed only in a (wolf?) skin (lupus= wolf) ran through the streets with a whip (made of wolf skin?) swatting women. Those same tried to get in the way of the whip so that they would be touched by it. The touch of the whip promised fertility. This took place around middle February.
