One day I was in the grocery and the guy behind me had a 12-roll pack. He said he had snagged the last one off the shelves. I said "good for you" and then he must have felt bad because he offered to give me one roll.
That is kind of what I mean about how it was sort of funny in an absurd way back then, because we didn't yet know what was in store for us.
I'm taking careful notes so that "next time" I hope I will understand their evil methods better.
First lesson: anything portrayed as absurd rituals or "we are all in this together" is part of the evil plot.
there was that one time, early on in 2020, before masks were mandated in our county but people had nonetheless started to wear them.... I was at the grocery and heard my name being called by a man wearing a mask and gloves and some kind of disposable paper gown. I walked towards him to figure out who this was, and he leaped back, exclaiming in horror, "it's Hal -- Hal Fisher! Don't come any closer!" Took me a split second to realize he was being serious. Took me another split second to realize he was irrationally terrified. I reacted by treating him with the same care and concern I would give to a psychotic patient.
These were the unsettling times when we got to see hilarious videos of people on subways wearing makeshift masks out of orange peels, and ladies ripping their thongs off to put on as a mask of sorts, when confronted by a store employee.
