I was lucky at a design school in 2002 to have a “history” class with a UC Berkeley professor who was teaching between two schools. It started with modern history of the west, the enlightenment, religious and secular divisions, differing philosophical views, leading up to the modern rise in exceptionalism and atheistic technocratic thinking (reductive materialism) which has all facilitated the desire for humans to play God via genetic manipulation. The class was designed to instill awareness and caution about where we were headed. By far the most important class I’ve ever had as a product designer.

Where we are as a society isn’t an accident. It’s also no accident they make “playing God” seem necessary, harmless and logical. But we all know, EVERY tool can become a weapon when in the hands of intelligent yet morally deprived selfish psychopathic humans. And here we are... exactly where he predicted. I wish I remembered the name of the one teacher who made the most difference in my life.

I do, but I have chosen to not share for reasons which relate to my site URL containing my full name as well as my line of work being “divisive”enough that it distracts from my shared concerns about the “controllers” vs sovereign human existence; not too dissimilar from the authors of “Turtles All the Way Down” remaining anonymous to prevent character attacks rather than just looking at the data or topic as presented.

Older guy, gray hair, very eccentric and I believe “old school gay”. Immensely intelligent man and very patient with “progressive” students trying to argue with him, Lol.

Professor Hayward blogs regularly on Powerline.com. I bet he would know of whom you speak if you dropped a comment on one of his articles.
