Very important. However, one of the things we all tend to forget is that none of the technology which makes our hi-tech world possible was or is obvious or necessary and none of the people mentioned here could have made it happen. The main advances of theoretical computer science mentioned here took place before the invention of the transistor (1948) or the integrated circuit (1958). Without these, computers would be prohibitively expensive and minimally capable toys. There are many more examples of this, and so when nuts like Harari make statements about what we "will learn to do" in the 21st century, they shouldn't be taken too seriously.

By the same token, who knows what new scientific and technological discoveries will be made which no one has imagined? Perhaps a new cheap source of energy will be found which will make all the prophecies of doom into a joke.

The real problem mankind faces (and has always faced) is the arrogant, amoral and immoral criminal class who would rule over everyone else, whether through empires, dictatorships, obscene wealth or lies and manipulation in the form of 'education'. This human issue is the one to which we must search for a solution.
