I read years ago that they did an experiment at Gitmo to determine if masking detainees caused them to break down more quickly than those unmasked: yes indeedy it worked! Don’t remember the specifics but the numbers shocked me—20% less time? It was not at the 5% significance level, nope. It made a noticeable difference. Have thought of that ‘study’ often especially when I see kids in masks:(
