"Plausible neutrality: People think the machines have no agenda, not realising that the models are trained to maximise engagement and satisfaction"

That statement does not go far enough ! The models are TRAINED , absolutely . And basically all the major Ai systems are owned, and trained, by extremely large, MAINSTREET companies .

For most "non-controversial" subjects, the information is fairly straight forward . But , and it's the Big But (no laughter please) ....... Any and All subjects where there are disagreements as to what are the True facts, who are the True experts, well.... the Mainstreet bias is alive and well.

To mention just one example , which is of paramount concern ..... it's the narrative regarding what is the real definition of HEALTH CARE . It is no secret that the allopathic model and the mainstreet Medical Cartel are unquestioned in their dominance . Experts that find fault are of course referred to as "unreliable sources" spouting unproven theories.

It's the same game as usual.... with the outright lie that AI is impartial , with no agenda.

Who owns all (almost?) the Ai models that are "free" to access? Sure, Billionaires !

How can the high school team ever rise to compete with the elites ? The gulf gets wider and wider .

I do know of one "alternative" , called Alter AI . Check out the results asking some "alternate" theories and opinions on the Covid / vax subject . Interesting. What would be great is if somehow a model like that could have a platform which somehow was widely known and easily accessible . Anyone think google would be interested in promoting it !!! Not .

If I've learned one thing in my almost 60 years it's...if it's in a movie it's probably already in the works. 😳 So iRobot and all the other computer taking over movies...I actually wouldn't be shocked! As always, what would shock me (yeah apparently I don't learn) is all the MORONS who'd go along with it! I mean if one guy can get a whole bunch of people to drink the 'kool-aid'! Or get millions to wear masks and gloves for a FLU, inject mercury and lead into their veins, willingly leave their loved ones to die in hospitals and nursing homes, believe wearing a mask from restaurant door to table then removing somehow protected them...then yeah I'd believe just about anything! My fav...all the people mad at Trump. If anyone believes a human man is coming to save them...well they are going to be disappointed aren't they?! He's a heck of alot better than what we could have got. However, in his defense NO ONE MAN COULD GO IN AT THIS POINT AND STOP EVERYTHING! WE, heavy emphases, on WE...allowed all this to go on for far too long. The damage is done. As stated so in the Bible. If we'd all pitched a fit from the depths of Hell day 2 of scamdemic...or at least when we first learned murdering hospital protocols were what was killing folks...it'd been over and life today would be different. I kept waiting! I'd read something and think dang I wished this would have happened when I was younger, but I'm in...let's go! I HATED my grandchildren saw us all NOT doing anything but whine and cry on social media about Numberg. Or however it's spelled. Now we expect one man to come in and just fix it all! Every time he does do something good there's plenty of judges, lawyers, and REALLY crooked politicians to fight it tooth and nail! We get what we allow! I've said that all my life! Same goes for children and relationships. If you don't shut down a bad behavior day it happens it always gets worse! Give an inch and the nicest person will take a mile! It's called human nature! Then add the scripture...The root of ALL evil... What was people's fav thing to post on Fascistbook besides...Numberg...follow the money! Which leads to our absolute biggest mistake ever (besides the internet and social media)...we ALLOWED God to be taken out of everything! Wrong is right and oh goodness we can't offend anyone because we are Christians! (Which Bible says alot about doing exactly that and standing for what shouldn't offend people anyway.) Especially since they are the FIRST to scream I'm offended then get violent! Whether one believes in God or not no one will EVER convince me that not stealing, not lying, not killing, not sleeping with someone else's spouse, nor idolizing money, etc, is bad. The internet is honestly the downfall of society. Where strangers believe they have the right to comment on everything in the most vial ways. Where idiots make pooping in your hands and clapping apparently sound like a wise idea. There's thousands of videos making God sound not real...doesn't mean He isn't. I'll never feel like I wasted my life either. How about those following the rest of the garbage the world is offering? I'd bet big bucks they will regret it!

Forgive me that i don't follow any one "religious" sect ...... BUT ...

I agree just about 100% with what you just wrote !

I have lived pretty much as a lone wolf most of my life . Not because i didn't like or get along with people, just because I would not blindly follow the path most taken.

It's not that we didn't try to warn people, we were censored and silenced. People kept getting a side of the narrative that we lovingly called fear porn. People are walking up slowly, but as you so aptly point out, too much trust is being placed in one man. Apathy from conservative folks are off the charts. Trying to invite people to learn about their constitutional rights or duties as citizens is pretty dismal.

I understand what you're saying. I haven't had fascistbook since Nov 2020, but I do always say...the ONLY good thing about fascistbook was what I learned before they started censoring. The way to have thwarted that...if everyone that believed like us deleted their accounts. See Zuckerprick is the EPITOME of root of all evil! No one for advertisers to advertise to or no one for the government to control...that wasn't already controlled...he'd sang a different tune ASAP. They LOVE LOVE LOVE LUST their money WAY more then they love the demon-rats...just they and other crooked billionaires were the highest bidders! Wouldn't have been if no one to put in fascistbook jail for not getting into the railcar! I sat there for THREE days after the scamdemic began watching people post pics of them waving at their mothers, etc through windows and I've seriously never felt so alone. Knowing how the internet attacks people I didn't say what I was a 1000% thinking!!!(Like they have some right?! Mind-blowing in itself!) I wanted to post...WTH IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! You really believe there's some virus out there we NEED the government to protect us from??? I'll always have ptsd over that! It forever changed me. However, Bible said don't put your faith in man. That scripture came to life for me for sure! Yes I'll always be grateful for those that finally spoke up. My comment is more about litterally standing up by any means necessary. Stand for something or fall for everything. BTW...1 finger at everyone else...3 back at ME! I always felt like I didn't do enough, but next time I'll be on a street corner every day with a sign reminding people...fool me once...shame on you! Fool me twice...shame on ME! If antifia or whoever starts their crap I pray we come out in DROVES an annhilate them! Something that makes it to history books or at least gets this young generations attention! And your last sentence...totally true and totally depressing. I appreciate your comment Justin.

I've been thinking about this recently, and I've been asking myself WHY CAN'T we stay on our current currency path? WHY CAN'T we continue doing things the way they've worked for hundreds or thousands of years? WHY do we HAVE to go down this path where we lose control of our finances, our freedom of speech, etc? I haven't seen a really good reason to HAVE to move towards blockchain, etc.

I just see this as part of a greater scheme for the people at the top to leverage the asset values of our properties for their own gambling/ripoff schemes, front-running stock sales by tracking where people's money is going in trends, scraping micro-percentages off every transaction in real-time, etc. and essentially bleeding us dry, so that yes, we own nothing, and in the absence of any alternative, we're supposed to be happy.

I'm hoping there's enough people with brains in their heads to say NO, even if they're being tempted with food/financial/convenience incentives to see the bigger picture.

It's an interesting observation, sir.

Except that: In the 90's we were spending hours in libraries, looking up wisdom to make decisions. In the Net Era, that research became easier with search engines. AI is simply the next evolution of that a search engine: Google on steroids.

I still have my wits about me, and I'm fully aware of what I'm being delivered. And that's the answer to any and all Government control: consciousness. As long as we're aware, we can be in control. It's a matter of maturity.

Human consciousness.

Yes. The danger of AI is when people think it knows right from wrong or good from bad. It does not. AI will never be sentient, but I think a lot of people whobelieve in it will become less sentient.

I've done this exercise and it's interesting, to say the least. Let's say you have a personal problem, something emotion-based that includes another person. Put the problem in a chat bot, and see the response.

Then... try to think from the opposite point of view; write it from the viewpoint of the other person in your conflict. Check the results. It's interesting to say the least.

From that standpoint, I've found Grok and Gemini to be very similar in their responses. Chat gpt seems to be programmed to be sympathetic to whoever is writing. In other words, Grok and Gemini will call out bad/destructive behavior, but Chat gpt will not.

Have only used chat GPT so far, but I try to limit my contact with it to things that are tangible, never discuss personal relations, political thoughts, or any religious/faith-based thoughts.

Is helpful for me for school research and also when I was moving cross-country, it was able to dig up good resources for that.

No big issues for my moving research but for school research, I had to constantly check it. It would, for example, pull a real quote from somebody but not source it correctly. For example, when restricted to using a particular article, it would try to use said real, but not in that particular article quote and say it was from that article.

Only when forced to admit it wasn’t there, would it backtrack and one time it told me something about it being ‘representative’ of what the author would say. It only redirected itself when I said it was of more importance to match quote with article word-for-word, rather than just being ‘representative’.

I’ll say this. By the time I had finished an assignment, I pretty much knew it inside and out, just from having to constantly supervise the AI.

It's actually really unreliable for simple tasks. For example, if you say something like "name the top resorts in the great lakes area" you will sometimes get results in places like North Carolina or West Virginia. It's also really bad at local results. If you say something like "name six places near X city that do appliance repair" you MIGHT get six businesses that do that. Or not. It's not all it's cracked up to be.

Honestly, that sounds nice, but I have heard that AI chatbots have recommended suicide to some people.

My point of view - I was a programmer for most of my career. Programs can give results, but not opinions or value judgements. . Any opinions will of necessity be influenced by the programmer. I see absolutely no need to change my point of view. My son and grandson feel that I am the most stubborn person in the world, and I am okay with that. Kept me from getting jabbed! I wish everyone well, but I will always sort of roll my eyes and I sincerely doubt I will ever be able to interface with a bot and take it seriously. I think that "AI" should be called "FI" - fake intelligence. Or faux intelligence, if that sounds better! Cheers!

shibumi's avatar

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you at all or your conclusions on "fake intelligence." I'm just making a bit of an observation. People WILL continue to use these tools for a lot of reasons: social isolation, inability to see things like a therapist, bad coping skills, or whatever.

My guess is Chat GPT would "sympathetically" recommend suicide. The other two seem to have something built in to stop that kind of response. I haven't tested them in that kind of conversation. People do need to be aware of this, which is why I shared my observations.

Btw, I am not heartless or humorless, I cry at movies and art and music, but a program is a bunch of lines of code, and that's that. Now that I think about it, I might find it fun to run a chatbot in Inspect, to see how the nuts and bolts and gears worked. I also do not do well with weed; son and grandson say it is because i am so strong-minded, and they do not mean that as any sort of compliment. :-)

What if the AI takes that away in a subtle way?

Does Ai 🤖 keep us in a state of perpetual adolescence?

What if Ai 🤖 is really the Beast system the gate way drug into the hive mind?

I think that the beast will come in looking like our friend so we welcome him into our lives—just like the vaccines have crept slowly I our lives as something to ‘save’ us from viruses that are made in labs.

The solution is simple - pull out of the matrix. Live out in the country. Grow your own food. Educate your children yourself. Get a job that does not require W-2 forms. Use barter or some other kind of money (not Federal Reserve Notes). Buy land and build your home - have no mortgage or encumbrances. Live where property taxes are low. Opt out of school system so you are not paying for it. In other words, revert back to pre-industrialization. I know it sounds weird but there is no other way to fight the machine than to get out of it completely. If everyone did this, the machine would fall apart.

If you look into MBTI type theory-- which many people hate-- it states that among their subgroups, there are two types:

1. People who like to make decisions-- "judgers"

2. People who do not like to make decisions-- "perceivers"

Everyone does fall somewhere on the spectrum and it's about 50/50. So... half of the population would actuallly like someone to tell them what to do.

Yes, AI was never going to "take over". It is just lines of code. The danger of AI is how it makes people stupid. Either by depending on AI for every big and little task, thereby losing knowledge and skills, or by deluding folks into thinking that AI is actually thinking. The most perfect example of garbage in, garbage out.

The problem is that most people are OK with garbage, most especially businesses. Businesses would rather use "AI" for tasks rather than humans because of "wages," "benefits," "days off" and so on. It doesn't matter if the quality is much worse; the price is right, and the executives get bonuses.

An example for those under 40 or so:

Once upon a time, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, stores had physical price tags on every single product. You went to a cashier, and in places like the grocery store, the cashier could whip through an order in no time, her fingers flying over the cash register.

Now it takes forever. There always seem to be errors, or the price is wrong; always to the customer's disadvantage, of course. It was much easier back then to do things like "go to the grocery store" or "go to the bank." But businesses like computers, so we're stuck. And it's much worse now than it was 50 years ago.

A long while back, I was monitoring a Christie's auction, the online part, for a company that wrote the software. Amazing stuff flew by, and for some reason, I was surprised when A Peaceable Kingdom was auctioned off, i always thought of it as hanging permanently at the Smithsonian or something like that. Anyway, last year I wanted to remember how much it went for, so I googled it. The AI dolt that sits atop the results spit out three sentences about auction results that totally contradicted each other. So, yeah, I sure do want AI supervising an operation or whatever. I have no reason to trust it, it is just lines of code that will never be really debugged as long as it does what its creator or commissioner wants it to do.

Also yes, you are quite correct.
