The west is already involved. The US overthrew the elected government of Ukraine, and installed military posts on the border. Several western countries including the US paid for training camps for child soldiers. Russia has objected to this. The west promised not to extend Nato towards Russia, but is all they have been doing. Invading another country is not right. I struggle to grant that Putin is rational. In what circumstances is hostile behaviour rational? (Not never, but only in extremis.)
