I think Kamala was selected because they needed someone other than Biden, and they did not have an obvious choice. Everyone would have been a risk. Kamala at least came with money (that is, the existing Biden donations). Now I think there is a lot of money laundering that happens with these campaign donations. That might have been their primary aim. Once Kamala was selected, the money from sources like ActBlue could flow. Obviously, they would like to win, but I think they have enough mischief ready to go that they might just plan to ride out the next President's term. If Trump can prevail, it could be a major turning point in US politics.
